Disaster Education and Mitigation: Social Media Content Management Strategy of the Regional Disaster Management Agency of Subang Regency

This study aims to analyze social media as a medium for disaster mitigation education to enhance public knowledge, awareness, preparedness, and capacity to reduce disaster risks, focusing on the management of social media content by the Regional Disaster Management Agency (Badan Penanggulangan Bencana Daerah/BPBD) of Subang Regency. The study employed a qualitative approach using interviews, observations, and document analysis to examine content management strategies, information verification mechanisms, the delivery of mitigation messages, and digital interactions with the public. The findings indicate that Instagram is utilized by BPBD as an educational medium to disseminate information on preparedness, mitigation, emergency response, and increased awareness of disaster risks. Information validity is strengthened through the verification of supporting evidence, including photographs and videos, prior to dissemination. However, the effectiveness of disaster mitigation education remains constrained by inconsistent educational content, limited diversity of learning formats, suboptimal utilization of interactive features, and limited two way communication and public participation. The novelty of this study lies in conceptualizing social media as a digital-based medium for disaster mitigation education that integrates disaster literacy, information verification, risk communication, mitigation learning, and public participation to strengthen community capacity
