This study examines the role of poster media in assisting children with intellectual disabilities (tunagrahita) in learning Islamic Religious Education (IRE) at the Pelambuan State Special School in Banjarmasin. Children with intellectual disabilities have limited ability to comprehend abstract material, so they require visual media that presents information clearly and attractively. This research used a qualitative field-research design, with data gathered through direct observation, in-depth interviews with the IRE teacher and school staff, and documentation, then analyzed through data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing, and checked for validity through source triangulation. The findings show that poster media plays an important role in helping students understand, focus on, and remember IRE material, particularly on worship practices such as ablution (wudhu) and prayer movements, and in motivating students to practice what they learn. Supporting factors for the use of poster media include school support, teacher creativity, parental involvement, and students' interest in visual media, while inhibiting factors include students' low concentration, differing abilities, the grouping of different levels of intellectual disability in one class, and unstable emotional conditions. The novelty of this article lies in its detailed, field-based account of how a simple, low-cost visual medium such as a poster can be adapted to the specific cognitive characteristics of children with intellectual disabilities in Islamic religious learning, offering a practical model that special-needs teachers can replicate.
