Efforts to Develop Students’ Potential in Islamic Religious Education through Flagship Programs at Madrasah Tsanawiyah Ulumul Qur’an Barito Kuala

This study describes the flagship programs implemented at Madrasah Tsanawiyah Ulumul Qur’an, Barito Kuala; examines the school’s efforts to design, implement, and develop these programs; and identifies supporting and inhibiting factors. It uses field research with a descriptive qualitative approach. Data were collected through direct observation, semi-structured interviews with program supervisors and students, and documentation, then organized and interpreted descriptively. The findings identify Qur’an memorization (tahfiz), Qur’an recitation improvement (tahsin), public religious speaking (muhadharah), worship practice, foreign-language learning, Arabic calligraphy, Islamic arts, da‘wah and religious activities, and Qur’anic recitation competitions (MTQ). Teachers support students through habituation, role modelling, individual guidance, motivation, structured activities, and continuing assessment. Teacher competence, a religious school environment, facilities, parental support, and competitions support implementation, while varied student abilities, low confidence, limited time, uneven family support, and uncontrolled technology use present challenges. The study’s contextual contribution is its integrated account of religious, communicative, artistic, practical, and spiritual development within one madrasah
