Perkembangan Sejarah Penafsiran Al-Qur'an di Asia Tenggara: Pengaruh, Tokoh, dan Metode dari Masa ke Masa
Abstract
The process of interpreting the Qur'an has continued to evolve from its roots in the Arab world to various parts of the globe, including Malaysia. Qur'anic interpretation in Malaysia began in the 17th century through the oral teachings of preachers (da’i). Written traditions of Qur'anic exegesis, however, only emerged in the 20th century. As a means of transmitting Islamic values, Qur'anic interpretation in Malaysia has been shaped by the da’i in their preaching efforts and by the influence of prior exegetical figures. Prominent figures such as Abdurrauf as-Sinkily, Muhammad Abduh, Rasyid Ridha, and al-Maraghi have had a significant impact on Qur'anic interpretation and Islamic studies in Malaysia. This article explores the journey of Qur'anic interpretation as transmitted by da’i and examines how each figure's influence has reshaped the structure of tafsir studies in Malaysia. The findings indicate that the process of Qur'anic interpretation in Malaysia grew through the efforts of da’i who were exposed to the ideologies of their teachers and the earlier exegetes
